PlayStation Plus March 2023 Overview

With yesterday being the first Tuesday of the month, a new selection of games has been made available as part of the PlayStation Plus subscription. Today, we’re going to focus on the more popular Essential tier, but we’ll also take a look at what’s coming to the Extra and Premium tiers, as well as what’s leaving the service this month. So settle in, grab a co-op buddy, and prepare to experience a slew of new titles.

ESSENTIAL

At the lowest tier, we have three new games being added to the service.

1.) Battlefield 2042 – This highly competitive first-person shooter is full of tense gunfights, strategic vehicular carnage, and a heavy emphasis on teamwork. While it initially launched to poor reception in 2021, the developers at DICE have put in significant work to improve the experience and it now seems to be in a much better place. I’ve always been terrible at these games, but if you’re looking for a chaotic shooter to squad-up with your friends in, then this might be one worth checking out. Both the PS4 and PS5 versions of the game are being offered.

2.) Minecraft Dungeons – If you’re a parent looking to share a Diablo-like experience with your children that’s void of gore and demonic imagery, then you’re in luck! Minecraft Dungeons takes all of the monster-slaying and loot/gear collecting of something like Diablo and turns it into a family-friendly multiplayer experience. Don’t worry, it can also be fully enjoyed in single-player.

3.) Code Vein – I’ve often heard this game described as “anime Dark Souls”, and after watching a trailer I’m inclined to agree. The combat, traversal, and camera angles look heavily inspired by Dark Souls, although the general consensus is that this is a much more forgiving experience. While I still have questions about the story, world, and characters, this is the game for this month that I’m the most interested in.

EXTRA/PREMIUM

While the basic “Essential” tier seems to be what the majority of players are subscribed to, there’s a decent collection of games being added to the Extra/Premium tier as well. These games include Ghostwire Tokyo (PS5), Immortals: Fenyx Rising (PS4/PS5), Rainbow Six: Extraction (PS4/PS5), Tchia (PS4/PS5), and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection (PS5).

LEAVING PS PLUS

Finally, there’s a handful of games being removed from the Extra/Premium tiers. These games include Danger Zone (PS4), Dungeons (PS4), Ghost of a Tale (PS4), Monster Energy Supercross: The Official Video Game 5 (PS4/PS5), Override 2: Super Mech League (PS5), The Vanishing of Ethan Carter (PS4), Velocibox (PS4), and Victor Vran: Overkill Edition (PS4).

There seem to be some great games in all three tiers, so subscribers of all kinds should hopefully have something to look forward to this month.
