Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (Review)

Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice is proof that games can tackle mature storytelling and taboo themes with aplomb. While other games have explored the subject of mental illness, psychosis is normally depicted as a cheap way to make a villain appear frightening, or worse yet, for comedic relief. Thankfully, the team at Ninja Theory decided to approach the discussion of psychosis with an adult perspective, depicting it with honesty, maturity, and with the intention of shedding some light on what mental illness can truly look like.
