My Video Game Shame List

I have a dirty little secret to share with you…
I’ve never beaten Final Fantasy VII. Often heralded as one of the best games of all time, and personally responsible for popularizing Japanese role-playing games in the West, Final Fantasy VII is a bona fide classic. I’m a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, and I’ve played and beaten a small handful of other games in the series, but I’ve never actually gotten around to the seventh installment.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the only game on my “shame list”.
Now, in an act of pure transparency, I’m going to share that list with you.

1. Chrono Trigger

What is it with me and 90’s era JRPG’s?
Chrono Trigger is a massively beloved game that I’ve never touched once in my entire life. I have several friends who rank it as one of their favorite games of all-time, I can get it for $9.99 on the PlayStation network, and yet I still haven’t given it the time of day it probably deserves. Honestly, this is the game on my list I’m most likely to pick up. I somehow know very little about its plot or characters, so I feel like I’m in for the most surprises with this one.

2. Super Mario Galaxy

I’m not a big fan of Nintendo anymore, but they are the company responsible for getting me into gaming, so I’ll always be thankful for them. Even though I own a Wii, Super Mario Galaxy was one of the titles I somehow never picked up. I’ve often heard that it’s not only one of the best games on that platform, it’s one of the best Mario games overall. Maybe one of these days I’ll head to the stars with Nintendo’s mustachioed plumber, but until then, it remains a dark mark on my shame list.

3. The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker

As a huge Zelda fan, this one has always been one of my hardest to live with. I skipped the GameCube, so I never got to play Wind Waker. I always loved its cel-shaded visuals, but was always disappointed that I didn’t have the hardware to play it. When I got the Wii, I technically could have played through backwards compatibility, but I couldn’t find a copy of it anywhere. With the HD edition on Wii U, I got super excited to finally play the Zelda game I passed by…but then I never bought a Wii U. If the NX turns out to be awesome and somehow supports backwards compatibility, maybe I’ll finally purchase a new Nintendo system and get around to playing this.

  1. I had a similar idea for a write-up, but you totally beat me to it. haha. Awesome post! I think the top of my shame list is (don’t laugh) Ocarina of Time. It’s crazy because I’m a huge Zelda fan, but I just don’t have the time anymore to go back and finish this game! I’ve beaten Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, Skyward Sword… I’m a terrible Zelda fan. hahaha.

I’m actually the Community Content Manager for NowLoading.co, and I would be thrilled if you considered cross posting your stuff to our platform. If you don’t know much about us- we’re the sister site to MoviePilot.com, and push to give awesome writers (like yourself) the exposure they deserve. Feel free to email me! tyler@nowloading.co

    • I might have beaten you to it, but you should still post yours! And you should definitely feel shame over Ocarina of Time πŸ˜‰

I actually do know about you guys, but at the moment I’m more focused on building my own page than cross posting on another.

      • Haha, I sure do, believe me. At least I can say I’ve finished Super Mario Galaxy. πŸ™‚

Yeah, I was talking to my co-worker, Paul, about your article, and he said he had talked to you about posting before. I guess you’re just that good! ;P Good luck with your blog! You’re a great writer!

  3. Hey man I’ve been reading some of your articles and I really enjoy reading them! At first I thought this was a “Shame List of games you didn’t like while others did” and not: that you were ashamed you haven’t played them. For me I’m ashamed I haven’t played The Last of Us to start. Xbox 360 owner, didn’t have PS3 so I couldn’t play it. Getting the remastered though soon and I’m amped about it, look forward to more of your blogs

    • Hey, glad you’ve been reading!
Haha if it was that kind of “shame list” I’m not sure what games would be on it. Maybe Alan Wake? Anyways, thank you for leaving a comment and I hope you enjoy the Remaster of The Last of Us!
